I found a link to a late 1994 posting from Joel Boutros with FAQ 1.00,
http://web.mit.edu/afs/sipb/user/marthag/News/faqs/asl . So if there is a
power to be that maintains the http://www.shoelesbians.com/about/faq1.htm
please change the date to 1994.
See I was going to orignally post that this was the 10th anniversay of ASL
but the FAQ page threw me off. However a little searching on Google for
Joel Boutros found one of his first FAQ posts for alt.shoe.lesbians.
yep, you're right about the 1994 date. however, there was almost no posting on
the pre-lesbian asl until late 1995 and early 1996. and the first post from an
actual lesbian, as opposed to those by joel or one of his friends was in (as
memory serves) january of 1996. all of this is based on a somewhat obsessive
search of usenet archives.

so it's probably a good idea to point out that ASL started in 1994. but it
wasn't really a lesbian newsgroup until considerably later.

well I'm sure I posted on ASL before 1996 as I met elisha_b via the ASL
list before I went to visit her in Aus. early 96. I specifically remember
having an e-mail conversation regarding a trip to London she made over the
XMas '95' / NewYear '96 timeframe before and after she travelled. So
there was definitely lesbian traffic on the ASL list before '96. I also
remember the occasional post from Joel. He was always quite mystified at
what he'd created.

then again I might not be an actual lesbian, let me go ask my partner for
verification. ;-)

I'm not trying to be a PITA stickler, but I was on some of the mid-90's
LGBT newgroups, just do a search for ***@kfc.com .

anyway I should prolly leave y'all alone, all I really wanted to do was
celebrate a 10 year anniversay.

not a historian, just an aging UNIX nerd with one to many SeniorMoments in
her life nowadays.
(an old pair of leather cowgrrl boots are staring at her from the closet
urging her on to the motorcycle she never rides anymore.)

This actual lesbian was definitely posting to a.s.l in 1995, and quite early
on that year -- I discovered UseNet before IRC.

I remember because I was living in Canberra in 1995, but in Sydney in 1994
and 1996 (and onwards). There is no confusing being a student in a
university computer lab in Canberra, with being a working person on a home
computer in Sydney. Well, let's face it, there's no confusing Canberra and
Sydney (-:

Cheers,
Luci
