well... this trip to Canada to play hockey proved dangerous. I gained 4
pounds over the weekend, no doubt in the swelling of my liver. Today, I
finally woke up sore. I'm stiff all over.
I made out well. Two of my team mates broke their ankles. One will likely
need surgery. The one that will need the extra attention had the grand
adventure in the Canadian emergency medical experience. We had an ER doc
with our team. He looked at Kate's ankle and was sure it was broken but
wanted to see x-rays. Eight hours later (and $800) she had her x-ray. They
didn't cast it because it might swell.
She was ordered to return the next day for casting, at which time she
repeated the 8 hour wait and $800 payment.
Next year, we'll be packing a load of cardboard boxes for splint making.
We'll pack our own crutches...
This tournament was plagued with lower leg injuries. I heard some talk
around the rink that players were suspecting issues of ice quality. Another
woman was being hauled off in an ambulance for a broken ankle as we
departed. There was a broken leg too.
As for the hockey, it was good. We played teams from Pennsylvania, New
York, and Ontario. We thought we might make it to the championship, but the
last team had a single superstar who beat us twice on the same shift. We
tied the game in the second and held that tie till 2:30 left in the 3rd,
when she scored again on a lousy turnover. All we needed to do was tie to
win, if that makes any sense. Very disappointing, but tempered by the fact
that we were home by 8 (instead of midnight) and we didn't have to play in
wet equipment.
<sigh>
I need to go to work now... I don't really care to. <pout>
