Hey all--
I'm finally having a few minutes to wade through things, but I really should
be outdoors. It's a lovely, warmish, dry (did I say dry?) day here in
Maine. It has largely been raining this year... since about Sept 1st until
two days ago. Our woodpile is mostly moved down the hill, with about 2 cord
remaining up top that we're picking away at. It's hard to move because it's
so goddamn heavy. When we put it in the stove and heat it up it hisses and
hisses. We've found salamanders up there in the woodpile. Of the stuff
we've brought down, it grew a black mold and atop the black mold is now
growing a white mold.
One of my asthma triggers is outdoor mold. I've been on prednisone for a
week now and am finally seeing my flow numbers increasing again. No fun.
Our dock is still in the lake, but really, really needs to come out. The
water is higher now than it has been at any point this summer. If we can't
get that damn thing out without getting in, it's going to require getting
_very_ wet... We talking not just dipping your cooter here, but going over
nipple deep... This could cause very bad effects.
The dog is still going, but his lump took a turn for the worse this week and
the new section that's growing is not hard, so it's not the sarcoma itself,
but some part of his sinuses that are getting squished out. We're coming
down to decision time which is resulting in lots of drippy eyes and noses.
He still wants to chase his ball though and the vet's recommendation was
that when he loses interest in the ball it would be time.
Our new gas heat is working well and finally installed. It's been good to
have the help of the fancy new Rennai when the wood won't burn. We're
hoping it stays dry long enough to make that wood burnable before the snow
flies.
Hockey has started up again. This year I've taken on a new challenge as
head coach of the Winslow Girls Ice Hockey Team. I've also been reffing a
little. Did a bantam game yesterday with a ref who's on the verge of hip
replacement surgery. Oh my! He took his oxys before the game and fell
asleep in the penalty box between periods. I left him in the refs room,
changing, after he declined a ride. He called me today to say he woke up at
5:30 (well over an hour after I left him) with a skate in his hand.
As for playing hockey... our little league suffered an upset this year when
a team folded. Turns out the guy who owns the rink is a big spender in
regards to donations to the Christian Civic League of Maine. Several
players quit the league in protest. The rest of us struggle on... I tried
to get some help out of HRC to sponsor our league or somehow force the
issue. Our big vote is coming up on the 8th, where all us homos are put up
again on the block to see if our neighbors would like to run us out of town
or not. I'm so not looking forward to it (again).
Places to go, things to do! I need to get my ass out of this chair.
Hey Cyn! the NHL is back in action... what do you think of the new rules?
