Sorry for the long delay in reply.
Post by Steph BarrettPost by Linda YanneyAnybody know much about the Portland area?
Kinda.... yep. What's your question?
Ah, I thought so, but I didn't want to assume that you'd want to be the
virtual tour guide.
With my current job running out at the end of the year, and nothing in
particular on the horizon here, maybe it's time for a change. I'm
exploring the notion of relocating to another part of the country.
My mother's family is from central Vermont and the northern Champlain
valley, and one of my brothers lives in the northern foothills. I've
always thought it would be nice to spend more time in the region, but
maybe not that far north. I like to play in cities, but don't especially
like living in really big ones, so I'd avoid someplace like Boston.
Burlington is nice, but a little too close to family.
Post by Steph BarrettHere are my skill areas... hotels. bars. bars. bars. local brews.
bars. area things to see. bars. I like to drink in the Old Port.
Sisters is a must. Ask questions, I give answers.
Bars would be an excellent place to start. General atmosphere. And what
the economy is like, of course.
Post by Steph BarrettWe just got back from a couple of miles paddle on the lake. Excellent.
Reminded me of my State O' Maine tartan scarf. Colors chosen for lakes,
trees, and sky. V. nice.
Pretty. When it comes to lakes and trees, I'm better an looking and going
"Oooooh, ahhhhh," than hiking or paddling (a boat), tho I'm been known to
do some if the company is right and the trail is easy.
Post by Steph BarrettI got my social worker license in the mail yesterday. Something I dread. I
don't like social workers. Anyway... they make decent money and get great
benefits and I hope I won't be the type of social worker hypocrite I hate.
I know some social workers who never gave up their ideals. Makes their
jobs harder than they already were, in many ways, but they keep at it.
Working within large institutions, as many of them do, makes change
seem futile much of the time (like most jobs). Where social workers have
their greatest impact, it seems to me, is on the broader political scene
through NASW and the state associations, and on the mundane level in
helping individuals get through these huge systems. Good luck.
