Iowa has finally joined the season of whiteness. Not the first snow-fall
of the year, it is the first of any consequence. I'd say there's about 4
inches on the ground in Iowa City now, which seems rather paltry to me;
it's the additional 6-10 inches expected throughout today and into the
night that will determine whether or not this is a big deal of a storm.

My sweetie is returning to Maine tomorrow, after a couple of weeks in
Arizona. She's flying Delta through Cincinnati, which seems uncertain at
the moment.

What she shoes will she be needing in Portland, oh Shoe Mavens of Maine?

It really depends what happens tomorrow. Right now, what we have in our
yard an hour north of Portland is a thin layer of icy snow over some small
amounts of solid ice underneath. We're forecast for 4-6" tomorrow, turning
to rain in some places. If she can land in Portland, I'm guessing it'll be
something that will keep her feet dry.

We usually fly out of Boston and bus to Portland. I'm not thrilled by the
"wintery mix" your region seems to be getting.

She called from Atlanta this afternoon. I got my hopes up that they'd
cancel eastern flights and she could get into Chicago, where I would meet
her for a long weekend. Didn't happen, but it was an amusing way to while
away the afternoon.
