Not sure if there still is anyone subscribed to the Shoes, but I thought
I'd check for a pulse.

Of course, I have an alterior motive. :)

Over the past year or so, I've been doing some volunteer editing for a
story site and I've finally taken the plunge and written two stories for
a Halloween Contest. Quite honestly, I don't have a hope in hell of
winning ... there's too much strategy and popularity voting going on as
well as it appears to be an anti-lesbian/homophobic voting contingent
that likes to take out the LBGT stories.

What I really would like is for people to read the stories and to get
feedback/comments. A vote would be great ... but feedback is what I'm
really hoping for ... even if it's as simple as "yeah, that was good" or
"crap, go back to editing". You can leave feedback anonomously through
private comments or publicly ... or you can rake me over the coals here .

Caution ... the site is an adult site and the stories are erotic. I
figured if I was going to try writing for the site, I couldn't cheat by
fading to black at the good parts.

satirical and definitely an element of horror.

This is Erotic Horror and quite a bit darker than ToT:DoD. There is
more emphasis on character and there is no doubt of the horror element.
This isn't gore horror though.

Oh yeah ... both are lesbian themed. :)

If you get a chance either during or even after the contest, take a look
and let me know what you think. The contest ends on this Sunday at 12
AM, but the stories will remain up after that. There is a very slight
possiblility that I will pull Paths off the site as I have it being
considered for an anthology (can you say freaking longshot?).

Nothing much new here, other than normal obladi-oblada life goes on stuff.
I do think we need to get a few electronic dartboards at the VB. I've
actually become semi-good. Ya gotta love a sport where drinking beer comes
naturally with playing the game.

Wow, some actual action on ASLM! Me, I'm in avoidance mode -- too
much to do, so how about a post!

If I was really good, I'd do a samhain post, but my brain just can't
get around that right now.

But I will play catch up a little, for those who still remember me...

Lets see:

I'm still working at the VA as a nurse, mostly on the hospice and
palliative care wing of the extended care facility, although

I only work a couple of days a week, because I'm still slogging away
at my PhD -- one more year of course work then it's on to
dissertation phase. I have my dis topic though (well, the current
version, I'm sure it will morph before I get to the proposal defense
stage). Anyway, for now it is: "The Experience of Hospice for Persons
with Dementia from the Perspective of Family Caregivers and Hospice
Providers."

Yay! I get to do qualitative research!

I'm also presenting at GSA -- the Gerontological Association of
America's big annual conference (about 4,000 people). I've been
working as a RA on a research project looking at end of life in
Assisted Living Facilities. We have a symposium --- Just the two co-
investigators and lil' ol' me...and we're listed in the program
highlights, so who knows how many people will show up. So I'll be in
Dallas the week of Nov. 13-21 if anyone wants to look me up.

I'm not as fully funded as I'd hoped, but at the 11th hour I got
awarded a new scholarship -- chosen by my own Gero faculty so that
feels good....and I'm always, always, always behind on my work.

Otherwise, Sunny (AKA technobabe supreme) and I are still way in love
-- our marriage may no longer be recognized by the state (damn that
Oregon Supreme Court!) but we know it's still real.

Sarah the Evil One still lives with us and so far no one has killed
anyone (although it's been a close call at times).

We're holding steady at 5 cats. After Sarah's Buca died 2 years ago,
Sarah came home w/2. They run the place, and especially Sunny who
exists to do their bidding.

OK, I'll go back to that exciting reading about ethics in end-of-life
research and Ecological Framework theory.
