Hey Lastoutlaw, have you put your water wings on? Sounds like more (lots
more) rain is on it's way to you.
We had a lovely night up here Saturday, with some company finally coming
over (2000th invite). They arrived late, late afternoon. We let the dogs
play for a while, then loaded up in the boat. By then, my SO was home and
another friend had arrived and we fired up the boat for a sunset cruise. It
ended up being a moonlit, 2 hour cruise around the lake at a chug-chug pace.
We blasted down the cove for the return home. People had to pee.
This boat is supposed to be a sit-down deal for the driver, which puts you
behind the windshield. However, operating in the dark, especially at any
speed, requires standing up. The instrument panel reflects off the inside
of the glass, greatly limiting the vision of the seated driver.
The cove was smooth as glass, with the big moon reflected upon it. It was a
great night for hunting, if you're a bat. As we sped along down the cove at
about 20 mph, just fast enough to plane, I saw a brief flutter, illuminated
in the green nav light on the bow. That brief flutter was careening and
smacked right into my neck with a thwap that could only be generated by a
soft little body with large, leather wings. A moment later, it was gone,
cartwheeling off over the stern and into the lake. I felt really bad for
it, likely to drown, injured, or be a meal for a bass or pike. I had some
fun too, suggesting to my passengers that it had landed in the boat.
Ok.. I need to get off to work.
